One of the most common questions we get at Delago is: ‘Can I just wash this at home?’ The answer depends on the fabric, construction, and embellishments of the garment.
Always Dry Clean
Silk, wool, cashmere, velvet, and heavily embellished garments should always be professionally dry cleaned. Water can cause these fabrics to shrink, lose shape, or bleed colour.
Safe to Machine Wash
Cotton t-shirts, jeans, polyester blends, and everyday wear are generally safe for machine washing. Always check the care label first and use appropriate water temperature.
The Grey Area
Linen, rayon, and structured garments like blazers fall in between. While technically washable, machine washing can cause wrinkling, shrinkage, or loss of structure that’s difficult to reverse.
Cost vs. Longevity
Professional dry cleaning may cost more per wash, but it significantly extends garment life. A ₹2,000 dry cleaning bill for a ₹20,000 suit is an investment in longevity, not an expense.
